Finlandia, composed for a gala in Helsinki to support the right of free speech at a time when the nation was under Russian domination, the piece became a symbol of Finland's struggle for independence, and virtually the country's unofficial national anthem. This faithful arrangement works really well, and the percussion gives it maximum impact. Although straightforward to play, the low trumpet parts have a couple of tricky moments and some stamina is needed to sustain the fortissimo throughout.
