Pifa (Pastoral Symphony) from Handel's Messiah

The Messiah is Handel's most famous work (approached only by his Water Music) and remains immensely popular among concert-goers in the English-speaking world. The "Pastoral Symphony", also known as the "Pifa", refers to a bagpipe tune. Handel characterizes the zampogna -- a type of bagpipe common to Italian shepherds made from sheep or goat skin -- with a droning element (pedal point) in the piece.

Arranged by Dave Payn for brass quintet, with optional brass band substitute parts.

Ideal as a 'play in' for a concert?
